Damp and mould
Persistent damp feeds mould, and mould spores trigger coughing, wheezing and asthma attacks, especially in children. Damp low on a wall usually means water is coming from outside or below, which is a bigger job than repainting.
Ventilation
Bathrooms and kitchens without a working window or extractor stay wet. That is how mould starts in a home that otherwise looks fine.
Drainage and water
A smell at a drain means gas is coming back into the room. Water that stains a sink or has a metallic smell should be tested before anyone drinks it. Standing water in the compound is a mosquito nursery.
Electrical safety
Warm sockets, browning around outlets, exposed joins and an undersized distribution board are fire risks. These are professional-inspection items, not something to test by hand.
A CribCheck walkthrough scores what you can see, hear and smell on site. Anything needing instruments — moisture readings, electrical testing, water quality — is flagged for a booked professional inspection.
